It’s Ben Mackay when he was five years old,who had the idea of making the first penny board, as he has spent countless hours on horseback around its first skateboarding-what it described as an old beat-up of opportunity .
“Skateboarding has always been and always will be a huge influence in my life,” says Ben.
Few things have changed with Ben for five years, in addition to much more experience and insight collected years of work with its passions specific. Since several years, in the years 90, Ben composed in its skills and its appreciation to work the wood for the wood as a cabinetmaker, then in 1999, his career path has taken a completely different turn together. Operating from garage of its parents in Australia, the young entrepreneur has begun to build its own presses and a machine of glue, and the importation of supplies such as the Canadian in maple in the region of the Great Lakes.
Its own society of skateboarding quickly took shape, as Mackay built its own advice and began pressing skateboards of wood for the local stores of skate as well as a large Australian distributor of skateboarding, skateboards, Kwala which it assigns by giving him his “first break.”
“I would like to lead and sell to skate shops top and at the bottom of the east coast of Australia each day, then come back to the House and press skateboards of night,” said Mackay. “It was difficult to say the least. When I am out of the money that I should go concreting to pay for more of wood supplies. The work was super hard! ”
This work has paid for Mackay, and in 2011, after a little more than a decade to build its own cards, it has created Penny skateboards, which is a return to this Council of origin of his childhood. Accordingly, in a little less than a year, the brand has taken its flight, not only in his native Australia, but also Stateside.
How would you describe the current position of Penny in both the American and international markets of skate?
There is a sense of humility in recognizing that we are in more than 35 countries throughout the world. So I guess our position is strong and I cannot express enough how passionate than I am on the quality of the parts and components. I guess that is the reason for our position. If the product was of shit or junky then we would simply not where we are today, not?
Good point. What do you think is the future of penny in the coming years?
I am sure we are just in the beginning for Penny. As you have seen with our range bio, we are more than just a skateboarding in plastic. The entire world, and it seems that all the world, can produce a plastic board scam these days. However one thing that you can not lay off is the attention of absolute fanatic of detail in the quality of the product and of a passion and love hard for skateboarding. In short we have so much on the road for the next 12 months, you will have to keep listening
Do you plan to make Penny product durable as traditional skateboarding ?
Definitely, In fact, I see that for the first time in many years skateboarding has flavor! I am sure that if the money was without concern we all have different cars for different occasions. Skate and surf are not different. I like to improvise on my Board of street or cruise on my Nickel … Compete, not. We are all of the snowboarders …
